Total hours: 10

Didn't get to spend as much time as I would've liked on the actual drawing part of this project this week as I would've liked... time was split between sketching, creating compositions, looking for imagery, and then trying to actually create... I almost finished composition 4, and I started composition 5. I also was inspired for possible imagery by Dr. -. I looked up some photos and printed them for my next composition that I will hopefully commence this UPCOMING week... yep... LOTS and LOTS to do.

Layer 2 - prepping for 3

The beginning of Layer 3

This project is a narrative painting in which we will apply 8 different layers of paint that tells - each relaying a part of your specific story or event. Each layer will be mostly if not completely covered by the next layer... I'm pretty pumped about this process. It's giving us a lot of room to experiment, but most importantly TO PAINT. You learn the most through the experience, and this gives us 8 different opportunities to create something on the same piece. LOVE it.

Kolby Wyatt

Kolby Wyatt, fellow student and friend, is almost done with his undergrad in Ceramics at Anderson University. His ceramic pieces are geometrically crafted. They have a futuristic element to them even though the process and material is old. He's incredibly talented.... not only in ceramics but also painting! This is a piece that he recently finished for our non-painting project. It is a large piece (3'x5' maybe?) constructed purely from old video game pieces, keyboards, action figures, digital cameras, etc... it's phenomenal!

This summer he plans to work at a camp teaching ceramics with plans to go to graduate school so that he can teach on the college level. Best of luck, Kolby. Your unique zombie, princess, sugar face compliments will never be forgotten or skipp'n out on class for bagels and coffee with Andrew and the iPad. You should probably just come back and take senior painting with Higgins and me.

these two vikings decided to ride their bikes for about 2 weeks all the way up into the canadian region. i'm thoroughly impressed with them (but i'm also bias because i have the same blood pumping through my veins)... everything they needed (tents, food, clothing, tools, etc) is packed on their bikes. they road and slept in and through rain, snow, and chilly temperatures... but they say it was 100% worth it. epic road trip, to say the very least, and a unique father and son bonding time for sure.

gosh, here is an amazing girl that loves and fears god so much. we met when she was a camper at hume in '06, went to joshua with her '06-'07 and became casual friends, and then i worked with her the summer of '07 and it's been so incredible to see her mature in christ since then. she has become more than a friend to me and i absolutely cherish her, her thoughts, her plans, her advice... just her. i'm missing her like crazy. she is an absolute encouragement to everyone she encounters and the word of god dwells within her and spills out onto everything that she comes into contact with. her passion to serve god is devout and genuine and extremely sincere. she is great.

so, i saw this collection while i was in paris.... and i seriously love prints, patterns and mismatch... but this has gone too far. honestly? i mean.... they look like they're wearing their grandfather's Hawaii vacation shirt mixed with middle school awkward first day of school skirts. gah... and what's going on with the 20s hairstyle with the asian makeup?

a-ha moments are the best

so, i was jaunting on this beautiful day trying to converse with the big guy upstairs... that goes on for a bit, but unfortunately my mind wanders and i quickly forget about my conversation. i start thinking about the most random of things.... seriously. about 25 minutes into this thing, i'm thinking about myself (of course because i'm a selfish bastard most of the time, let's be honest) and feeling glum for whatever reason, and i see this mom running up the side of the road. she's pushing her baby while holding onto the leashes of her, not 1 but 2, dogs! i was like, what the trash?!?! she totally amazed me. quickly i jump from, "ahhh my knee hurts and life it's more and more complicated," to crazy thoughts of being a mom and getting really stoked about it. my next thought was literally, "i hope that's me someday... yes, that will be me someday.... minus the dogs... just me and my tike out for a jaunt on a beautiful day enjoying God's creation."

then we pass each other and i'm quickly back into thinking about body image and training and blah blah blah... it's really just more selfish thoughts.... but that led me to think about how it fits slash doesn't fit into my most favourite and cherished Book and a verse pops into my head "you are not your own. for you were bought with a price." and i'm like, "no... that's not a verse... i just made that up or heard some speaker say that once or something"... pah! nope. looked it up because it was on my mind ALL day.... over and over and over.

it's from ICor6 (which is humorous because i just started studying this book). PS - Paul was such a prankster for Christ. anyways blogspot, it says this:

An EKG shows:

■The rate of the heart beats
■The rhythm of the heart beats
■Irregularity in the heart beats
■Strength and timing of electrical signals as they pass through the heart
The test is used to detect heart conditions, such as heart attacks or arrhythmia. EKGs can also show results of other disorders that affect heart functions. Doctors use EKGs to find the cause of unexplained chest pain and other heart related symptoms.

Time Log 8: Drawing 2

Total Hours: 12

This week I spent time working on finding more images, creating images through film photography (only got one that might work), and obtaining images online that I can reference in my drawings, drawing, and more drawing.... I started working on two pieces, both of which I'm not very pleased with at this point, but they are unfinished, so it's hard to judge them fully. I'm still experimenting with the ink and brush... trying to find something that I really like between the soft and pointy strokes. I also experimented with a knife on my work to create different marks on the paper - I'm a fan.
