And So History Repeats Itself

Once upon a time, all things were lovely.
Lovers met and spoke plainly.
Affection was pure and open,
Nothing hidden, disclosed from anyone.
Hah, or so we deceive ourselves into believing...
Or... Once upon a time, she was confused.
Others tried to warn her; she ended up misused.
He poisoned her with his charm,
She never thought he'd do her harm.
He bought his way to her heart,
Along with that foreign accent
Or at least that was a start.
Unexperienced and untainted by the world of men,
He introduced her to it again and again.
She savored each and every lie
Because everything tastes, feels,
And seems delicious in July.
She ignored every single red flare,
And ended up talking to the air.
All she got back was something damaged and ugly.
Who would ever want the random pieces left over?
Pieces that once belonged to that bloke, unfortunately.
Afraid to show her emotions, she wept
Late at night while the others slept.
Feeling sorry for herself,
Wondering why she gave up herself,
Wanting terribly to be herself,
Wishing others didn't see herself
as someone gone to waste.
She got lost somewhere in between.
Do you know what I mean?
Over and over I repeat, sometimes with strife,
"Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life."
Once upon a time... Once upon many times.
